Procedure

Guard service registration

In accordance with the code of ethics of the veterinary profession, any veterinarian established in Luxembourg is required to register for the on-call service as soon as he is established in Luxembourg. Integration into the childcare service will take place within three months after the start of the year. The Veterinary College originated in the Grand Ducal Decree of 6 October 1945 creating a Veterinary College.

The Veterinary College may exempt from participation in the service any veterinarian who invokes health reasons (medical certificate required) or any other duly substantiated reason. At that time, the Veterinary College was primarily responsible for the supervision of the livestock health service and for the study and examination of all livestock health matters referred to it by the Government as well as for disciplinary authority over all persons practising veterinary medicine.

A veterinarian who participates in the childcare service is entitled to a lump-sum allowance for each childcare service provided. This compensation is borne by the State budget and cannot exceed the amount of 300 euros. While at the time, the Veterinary College could set up a disciplinary council, disciplinary power is now provided by a completely independent body.
